Anime

Anime is a word used by people living outside of Japan to describe cartoons or animation produced within Japan. Using the word in English conversation is essentially the same as describing something as a Japanese cartoon series or an animated movie or show from Japan. The word itself is simply the Japanese word for cartoon or animation and in Japan is used by people to describe all cartoons regardless of country of origin. For example, a Japanese person would think of Sailor Moon and Disney's Frozen as both being anime, not as two different things from separate genres.

Manga

Manga is one of the most popular forms of Japanese entertainment media. Phenomenally popular among both adults and children, some manga are read weekly, while others circulate widely as serials in national daily newspapers. The fact that the annual sales of manga books and magazines reach between thirty-five and forty percent of all publications in Japan shows the extent and range of audiences who relate to these materials. Manga is a powerful vehicle of influence in the youth subculture, and serves as significant cultural entertainment. In Japan, people of all ages and walks of life read manga.

J-POP

J-pop, an abbreviated term for Japanese pop or Japanese pop music, is a musical genre that has been a part of Japanese pop culture since the mid-twentieth century. J-pop applies to various music genres, from jazz and vocal ballads to pop-rock and folk, and “idol pop,” which features the highly polished and aggressively marketed entertainers known as Japanese idols and idol groups.
J-pop is marketed through extensive touring, promotional appearances, roles in TV dramas, and theme songs for anime programs and video games, like Hikaru Utada’s popular theme for Kingdom Hearts.
